AMA is small, progressive school with a personal environment. There are approximately 100 AMA students in 2009-10, ranging between pre-kindergarten and twelfth grades. The atmosphere is congenial, creative, supportive and fun. AMA students have been accepted at some of the world’s best universities and have won prestigious international scholarships.

Over half our students have parents who were born in Guatemala. The remainder have roots in countries including Germany, Italy, Mexico, France, the U.S.A., Switzerland and Bangladesh. Most AMA kids were born in Guatemala and are Guatemalan citizens.

AMA stresses social learning as part of its curriculum. Mutual support, self-expression, tolerance of others and conflict resolution are all nurtured through carefully planned activities that continue throughout the course of the school year. AMA does not tolerate bullying or exclusion, and its teachers and staff work constantly to teach kids to be good school citizens and to fulfill their potential as human beings.

AMA’s learning environment is at once casual and rigorous. Students call teachers by their first names, and are encouraged to seek extra help or advice. The course of learning is advanced, and on a par with excellent prep schools in the U.S. and elsewhere in the English-speaking world. We encourage students to engage in their work not as an obligation, but as an adventure. The goal is to create thinkers who think for themselves, and who encounter the world armed both with knowledge and creativity.
